SKLUBS / BUYING GUIDE
Packaging MOQ: plan quantities per design for US projects
A minimum order quantity is meaningful only when you know what it applies to. Ask whether the minimum is per design, size, material or another defined production configuration. A total across several SKUs may not meet the requirement for each variant.

Define the unit of the minimum
Record the format, size, material, print and finish alongside the quantity. A change in one of these can require a separate production configuration. Do not assume that several similar-looking designs can share the same minimum.
Use the written quotation as the project reference. A minimum advertised for one product family does not establish the minimum for every option or a future reorder.
Build a quantity list by variant
Create a row for every SKU with its artwork version, size and requested quantity. Include language variants where their artwork differs. This makes the actual request visible instead of presenting only a large combined total.
Illustrative example: 1,000 packs split into four designs means four quantities of 250. Whether that order is feasible depends on the confirmed minimum and specification; the arithmetic is not an offer or a production promise.
Compare sensible order scenarios
Ask for the initial quantities and, where useful, an alternative quantity for the same specification. Compare the full order amount, not only the unit price. A larger order may tie up more stock and cash even if each unit costs less.
Do not increase every variant equally without considering how it will be used. Record known demand separately from an optimistic forecast. Avoid treating a supplier’s minimum as a recommended inventory level.
Clarify preparation and repeat orders
Ask which setup, artwork or tooling charges apply and whether reuse is possible. A previous order does not guarantee unchanged pricing or availability. Changes to text, dimensions or finishes should be identified before a reorder is quoted.
If the requested quantity is not feasible, ask whether a different format or specification could be reviewed. Do not assume a workaround is available until it has been confirmed.
Keep uncertainty in the brief
Send the variant list, delivery destination and launch needs to SKLUBS. Identify which quantities are fixed and which can be discussed. Ask for the minimum and any quantity tolerance to be stated in the actual offer.
This helps the team assess the request without inventing a universal minimum or applying another manufacturer’s figures to your project.
US project brief: dimensions, use and destination
For a US project, label every dimension in inches or millimeters and ask for one agreed drawing before sampling. Avoid rounding conversions independently in artwork, purchasing and production documents. Include destination state and ZIP code in the request.
Distinguish the product pack from any outer parcel or distribution packaging. An appearance chosen for a retail shelf may need a different shipping system for direct-to-consumer orders. Have the actual product copy and market-specific statements approved separately from the construction and delivery quote.
Questions about MOQ
Can several designs be combined? Only when the supplier confirms the grouping for that specification.
Does the minimum guarantee the lowest price? No. It defines an ordering condition, not the best economic choice for your business.
Are samples governed by the same quantity? Ask for sampling arrangements separately; do not infer them from the production MOQ.
