SKLUBS / BUYING GUIDE
Compare packaging quotes beyond the unit price for UK projects
A lower unit price is useful only when the quotations cover the same packaging and services. First align the specification, then compare the known total and the remaining uncertainties.

Match the specification before the price
Check quantity per design, usable dimensions, material construction, printing and finishes. One design produced in a single run is not the same brief as several variants sharing a total quantity. If a supplier proposes an alternative, keep it in a separate column rather than quietly replacing the original requirement.
Write down the differences. Terms such as premium board or protective finish need a more precise description before you can judge whether the offers meet the same need.
Separate one-off and recurring charges
List artwork preparation, tooling, samples, agreed checks, packing and transport. Identify the currency, tax treatment and quotation validity. A missing line is not automatically free: it may be included elsewhere, excluded or not applicable.
Ask whether any setup or tooling can be reused on a repeat order and on what conditions. Do not calculate future savings from an assumption. Include your own assembly and storage constraints when they affect the choice.
Compare delivery to the same named destination
Have both suppliers identify included and excluded services up to the same place. Record the delivery rule and named destination as written in the quote. SKLUBS.COM presents its international offer on a DAP basis; the actual project quotation must confirm the scope and excluded import costs.
Do not copy domestic delivery conditions into an international comparison. Where duties or taxes need assessing, obtain advice for the actual product and destination rather than using an unsupported percentage.
Check what starts the production clock
Ask whether the quoted time begins after proof approval, payment or another defined event. Separate preparation, manufacture and transport. The date you would like to receive the order is not a confirmed delivery commitment.
Assign an owner and date to outstanding artwork, samples and approvals. Compare calendar assumptions as carefully as the amount because an unresolved input can move the project.
Calculate a comparable known total
For the same quantity and scope, add the known one-off, production and delivery charges, then divide by the quantity if a comparable per-unit figure is useful. Keep unknown costs visible instead of treating them as zero. This is a comparison method, not a manufacturer price estimate.
Choose after resolving material differences in scope. A higher total does not prove better quality, just as a lower total does not prove a saving. Send SKLUBS your specification and delivery destination to request a clearly scoped alternative.
UK project brief: dimensions, use and destination
For a UK quotation, identify Great Britain or Northern Ireland and provide the destination postcode. Keep the packaging specification separate from delivery responsibilities. Confirm the agreed dimension convention and approved UK product copy before comparing suppliers.
If the pack is intended for retail, online orders or gifting, describe that journey explicitly. A UK destination does not by itself establish whether a box is suitable for parcel delivery. Ask for the relevant construction, outer protection and delivery scope to be documented in the proposal.
Questions about packaging quotations
Why can the unit price change with quantity? Fixed preparation costs may be spread across more units, but the actual price depends on the quoted job.
Is transport included in production time? Do not assume it. Ask for the stages separately.
Can I compare two different currencies directly? Record the currency and the basis used for comparison; do not confuse an indicative conversion with the supplier’s binding amount.
